ReplyDeleteAnd what precisely is wrong with that? The IWSC has paying sponsors for its awards. Or is this simply a wine professional's knee-jerk reaction to wine marketing? (Since you are anonymous, I don't know)

ReplyDeleteRobert, I think Anonymous is just elbowing the wine industry in the ribs, just as you do. Might you defend the comment if it were in a piece by The Hosemaster? And there's a category missing - Awards Ceremony of the Year. Kids used to do sport, now they do wine. If you don't win at this ceremony, there'll be another one along next week.

DeleteI wasn't being witty (this is the original Anonymous btw). I recognise that individual awards are 'up for auction' for sponsors. Just that in this case they all are part of the MMD stable and therefore it's a bit like the 'Me 1', 'Me 2', 'Oh, Me again' awards...
ReplyDeleteI don't think it makes that much difference who sponsors an award to be honest. (Which does raise questions over the value of this kind of sponsorship) and have no problem with MMD using its agencies (and possibly helping to manage its budgets)
